A pirataria é sempre um assunto muito delicado, já que a grande quantidade de adeptos da prática ilegal a defende como "um mal necessário" em nosso país. Porém, é preciso lembrar que o rombo causado por ela na indústria de jogos é bastante significativo. Para comprovar isso, a Bit Torrent, responsável pelo maior programa de compartilhamento de arquivos, divulgou a quantidade de downloads de jogos feitos para PC, Wii e Xbox 360. De acordo com o resultado, Call of Duty: Black Ops foi o título que mais vezes foi baixado ilegalmente: 5,2 milhões nas três plataformas.

O destaque, infelizmente, está no fato de desses valores representarem somente os downloads feitos utilizando o programa Bit Torrent. Usuários que usaram outros programas ou meios alternativos não entram na conta, mas sabe-se que a quantidade é igualmente assombrosa.
Outro dado assustador é que em alguns casos, o número de cópias ilegais é superior ao das vendas. É o caso de Dante’s Inferno e Alan Wake, que conseguiram comercializar somente 620 mil e 850 mil discos respectivamente, conforme indica o site VGChartz.
A responsável pelo programa de torrents não comentou sobre a quantidade de downloads feitos para PlayStation 3 e nos portáteis Nintendo DS e PSP, considerados as duas maiores vítimas da pirataria nos games.
